CASE STUDIES

Radio Show:  Justice Talking Format

The Justice Talking broadcast format can be adapted for use in small group collaborations and full class projects, with and without actual recording technology.

  1. The first segment sets up the issue, usually with an interview that outlines why it is important, how it has been or is being treated in the policy arena, and perhaps some voices of those affected.
  2. The middle segments include a structured debate between two or more competing points of view.
  3. The last segment brings in additional voices and explores the topic from other viewpoints not covered by the debate.

Viewers should be aware that the level of detail varies among the three case studies to the right. The Public Science Writing case study, which I conducted, is the only one of the three that was recorded. The media included there offers a sampling of student work but is not integral to an understanding of the assignment itself. The additional case studies are included to illustrate the flexibility in this assignment.
